The platform offers a number of features and powerful technical analysis tools.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re new to trading, however, it can be difficult to know where to start with MT4. This MT4 guide will go through the whole process, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.t4trade.com\/fr\/register\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">opening an account to making your first trade<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-metatrader-4-mt4\"><strong>What is MetaTrader 4 (<strong>MT4<\/strong><\/strong>) <strong>?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>MetaQuotes created MetaTrader 4 (MT4) in 2005. The platform can be used to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.t4trade.com\/fr\/markets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trade a variety of markets<\/a>, including forex, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.t4trade.com\/fr\/markets\/indices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">les indices<\/a> and commodities, via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.t4trade.com\/fr\/cfd-trading-and-t4trade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Les CFD<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MT4 is highly customisable to individual trading needs and preferences, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.t4trade.com\/fr\/markets\/forex\/\">therefore it is popular with forex traders<\/a> all around the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, you can also automate your trading by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.t4trade.com\/fr\/types-of-traders\/algorithmic-traders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">implementing algorithms that open and close positions<\/a> according to pre-set parameters. While the order window can seem confusing at first, here\u2019s what you\u2019ll see inside:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Symbol<\/strong> (drop-down menu) lets you select the market you want to trade<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Volume<\/strong> is the size\/lot you want to trade<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Stop loss\/Take Profit<\/strong> to manage risk by setting price levels to exit automatically. <strong>Comment<\/strong> is a small space to leave a comment about a specific trade, or for more advanced trade-management purposes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For example, choose <strong>Instant Execution<\/strong> if you want to place your trade immediately when you select either \u2018buy\u2019 or \u2018sell\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>S\u00e9lectionner <strong>Pending Order <\/strong>if you want to set a trade to trigger at your chosen price.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, the options available will depend on whether you choose Instant Execution or Pending Order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-monitor-and-close-positions\"><strong>Monitor and close positions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To monitor your open positions and pending orders: <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the Terminal window by pressing Ctrl + T on, or click \u2018view\u2019 in the toolbar and select \u2018Terminal\u2019. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to the <strong>N\u00e9gociez<\/strong> tab \u2013 here you can see all your open positions and pending orders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Close a position or delete a pending order &#8211; click the small \u2018x\u2019 on the far right of the profit column.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-modify-stops-and-limits-on-open-positions-in-mt4\"><strong>Modify stops and limits on open positions in MT4 <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To adjust stops or limits on open positions and pending orders, open the <strong>Terminal<\/strong> window (Ctrl + T) and go to the<strong> N\u00e9gociez<\/strong> tab. Right click the position or pending order you want to edit and select \u2018Modify or Delete order\u2019 to open the order window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From here, you can modify or add stops and limits to your position. Once your changes are finished, click the red <strong>Modify<\/strong> button to confirm changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-customise-mt4-charts\"><strong>Customise MT4 charts<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.t4trade.com\/en\/mt4-charting-tools-how-to-analyse-the-market-like-a-pro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MT4 provides a variety of tools to customise your charts<\/a>, including drawing objects on charts, adding indicators and changing timeframes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-draw-on-charts\"><strong>Draw on charts<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>MT4 offers several \u2018objects\u2019 for drawing on charts. From left to right on the toolbar image, these include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cursor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Crosshair<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Draw vertical line<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Draw horizontal line<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Draw trendline<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Draw equidistant channel<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Draw Fibonacci retracement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Draw text<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Draw text label<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Arrows<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To draw, select the object you want and click on the chart. For some objects, you can adjust the width and positioning by moving your mouse as you click on the chart, while others open a separate window for customisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To edit or remove an object, right-click on the chart and select <strong>Objects List<\/strong>. This opens a window showing all active objects on the chart. Choose the object you want, then click \u2018Edit\u2019 to adjust its settings or \u2018Delete\u2019 to remove it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-add-mt4-indicators\"><strong>Add <strong>MT4 <\/strong>indicators<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can enhance your charts by adding indicators such as <em>RSI<\/em>, <em>Oscillateur stochastique<\/em> et <em>Bandes de Bollinger<\/em>. To do this, drag your chosen indicator from the <strong>Navigateur<\/strong> window and drop it onto the chart. A window will usually open, allowing you to customise how the indicator is displayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MetaTrader 4 supports thousands of indicators, offering a wide range of options to analyse the forex market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indicators can also be added to a price chart using the menu bar. Click <strong>Insert, <\/strong>then <strong>Indicateurs <\/strong>and choose the indicator you want from the drop-down menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To edit or remove an indicator on a chart, right click within the chart window and select<strong> Indicators List<\/strong>. This opens a window showing all active indicators on the chart. Choose the indicator you want from the list, then click <strong>Edit <\/strong>to customise the indicator settings or <strong>Delete <\/strong>to remove it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-change-timeframe\"><strong>Change timeframe<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To change a chart\u2019s timeframe, right click on the chart, select <strong>Timeframe<\/strong>, and choose your preferred option from the drop-down menu. Available timeframes range from 1 minute to 1 month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also adjust the timeframe of a selected price chart using the toolbar buttons. From left to right:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>M1 (<\/strong>1 minute)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>M5<\/strong> (5 minutes)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>M15<\/strong> (15 minutes)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>M30<\/strong> (30 minutes)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>H1 <\/strong>(1 hour)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>H4<\/strong> (4 hours)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>D1<\/strong> (1 day)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>W1 <\/strong>(1 week)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>MN <\/strong>(1 month)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-set-up-a-price-alert\"><strong>Set up a price alert<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To create a price alert, open the <strong>Terminal<\/strong> window and go to the <strong>Alerts <\/strong>tab. Right-click within the window and select <strong>Create. <\/strong>Le <strong>Alert Editor <\/strong>window will open<strong>, <\/strong>allowing you to customise your price alert<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-view-your-trade-history\"><strong>View your trade history<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To view your trade history, open the <strong>Terminal <\/strong>window and go to the <strong>Account History <\/strong>tab. You can adjust the date range by right-clicking within the window and selecting one of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All History<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Last 3 months<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Last Month<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Custom Period &#8211; allows you to choose a specific date range in a new window<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-download-trade-reports\"><strong>Download trade reports<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To generate a trade report, open the <strong>Terminal<\/strong> window and go to the <strong>Account History <\/strong>tab. Right-click within the window and choose one of the following options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Save as Report<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save as Detailed Report<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Both options produce a report listing individual trades (closed transactions, open trades and working orders) along with an account summary.
